MACC must take full responsibility for the death of Teo Beng Hock

The whole nation is shocked over the mysterious death of Mr Teo Beng Hock who was last seen on the 14 floor of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Selangor headquarters in Shah Alam, where he was interrogated earlier. Mr Teo was a former Sin Chew Jit Poh journalist and the political secretary of Selangor state executive councilor, YB Ean Yong Hian Wah. Until this hour, the cause of death is still unclear and no announcement has been made by the authority.

According to news report, Mr Teo was interrogated for long hours. Long hours interrogations should be stopped and the government should come out with new regulations to oversee interrogations so that no inhumane treatment can be employed during such occasions.

I do not believe Mr Teo took his own life as it did not make sense and it’s supposed he will be registering his marriage tomorrow. MACC must take full responsibility for the death of Mr Teo because at the material time he was in the building of MACC.

The Government must set up a public inquiry to ascertain the cause of Mr Teo’s death and to also make recommendations to the government to ensure the safety of everyone including detainees in the building of MACC.

My deepest condolence to Mr Teo’s fiancée, his parents, loved ones and close friends.

Seluruh negara amat terkejut dengan kematian aneh Encik Teo Beng Hock yang kali terakhir dinampak khalayak di tingkat 14 ibu pejabat Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Selangor di Shah Alam, di mana beliau telah disoal siasat. Encik Teo adalah bekas pemberita Sin Chew Jit Poh dan setiausaha politik untuk ahli exco Selangor  YB Ean Yong Hian Wah. Sehingga detik ini, sebab kematiannya belum jelas lagi dan pihak berkuasa tidak membuat apa-apa pengumuman.

Menurut laporan berita, Encik Teo telah disoal siasat berjam-jam. Soal siasat berjam-jam patut diberhentikan dan pihak pentadbiran harus menentukan peraturan baru untuk memantau para penyiasat supaya layanan kejam tidak boleh diberikan semasa sidang soal-siasat.

Saya tidak percaya Encik Mr Teo sanggup membunuh diri kerana ini tidak masuk akal dan beliau sepatutnya mendaftarkan perkahwinannya hari esok. MACC mesti menanggung tanggungjawab sepenuhnya ke atas kematian Encik Teo kerana pada sepanjang waktu itu beliau berada dalam bangunan MACC.

Pihak pentadbiran mesti mengadakan siasatan terbuka kepada umum untuk memastikan sebab kematian Encik Teo dan membuat cadangan untuk memastikan keselamatan semua termasuk tahanan dalam bangunan  MACC.
